In his speech to the 20th ASEAN-India Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the solid relationship that exists between India and ASEAN as they begin their fourth decade of cooperation. Prime Minister Modi, who co-chaired the summit with President Joko Widodo, praised the event’s planning and expressed his gratitude to President Widodo and the ASEAN leaders for their capable leadership.

PM Modi posted on X, “We had productive discussions on enhancing closer cooperation in key areas to further human empowerment”
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Modi offered heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia, who recently assumed office, and welcomed Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão of Timor-Leste as an observer in the meeting.

Our partnership is entering its fourth decade, Prime Minister Modi said. I am very happy to be co-chairing the India-ASEAN Summit in this regard. President Widoo has my sincere congratulations and gratitude for the superb organization of this summit. I also want to congratulate the ASEAN group’s capable leadership. I extend my sincere congratulations to Cambodia’s Prime Minister His Excellency Hun Manet on his recent election. I also extend a warm welcome to Timor-Leste’sPrimeMinister, His Excellency Xanana Gusmo, who is attending as an observer.

As he emphasized the shared values, regional unity, and shared belief in a multipolar world that bind the two entities, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the historical and geographical connections between India and ASEAN.
