CM Bhagwant Mann has initiated action after opening a sealed report on the drug case. He has ordered the termination of PPS officer Rajjit Singh, who is nominated in the drug smuggling case report. CM Mann has provided information in this regard via Twitter. CM Mann has also ordered an inquiry to Punjab Vigilance to find out the assets acquired by Rajjit Singh in the drug smuggling. CM Bhagwant Mann had summoned all the files in the drug racket case.
The High Court had ordered the Special Task Force to investigate the matter related to Inspector Indrajit Singh, including SSP Moga Rajjit Singh. At the same time, Rajjit Singh filed an application in the High Court saying that STF chief Harpreet Singh Sidhu cannot conduct a fair investigation into his case. The High Court formed the SIT of DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay, ADGP Prabhod Kumar, and IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh and ordered an inquiry. The inquiry committee submitted its report to the High Court, while Siddharth Chattopadhyay submitted two reports directly to the High Court, which were in a sealed envelope in the High Court.
The state government had described the action on the basis of all three reports and the orders of the High Court. The SIT of DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay submitted a report to the High Court in 2018. The report nominates Moga’s then-SSP Rajjit Singh and Inspector Inderjit Singh, who were caught in the drug case. Apart from this, another report was also submitted by Siddharth Chattopadhyay. It is worth noting that in its 2017 report, the ED stated the need to interrogate SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia, accused in the drug racket case. On the ED report, Punjab STF also said in its report that the investigation has revealed many such things, under which the next investigation is needed. The High Court had sought a response from the Punjab government during that time.
The Punjab government submitted its opinion to the High Court on the sealed report on 23 May, 2018. In the year 2021, the High Court ordered action on this. After this, a case was registered against Bikram Singh Majithia on 20 December, 2021, under the NDPS Act in Mohali. Majithia is out of the High Court on bail in this case.
