The couple operated a YouTube channel called “Sellu Family,” which boasts 18,000 subscribers and features over 1,400 videos focused mainly on Priya’s cooking. Just a day before their deaths, they uploaded a touching 55-second photo montage. The video included the soundtrack “Vida Parayukayaanen Janmam,” which speaks about the final journey toward death, raising concerns that Priya might have hinted at their intentions.
Their son, a home nursing trainee, returned home late Saturday night and found their bodies. Reports indicate that Selvaraj was hanging, while Priya’s body was found on the bed. Initial investigations suggest that the couple may have died two days earlier.
Local residents expressed their worries about the mysterious circumstances surrounding the couple’s deaths, speculating that there might be more to the story. Neighbors described Priya and Selvaraj as reserved individuals who rarely interacted with the community. One neighbor noted, “I hardly ever saw visitors, except Priya’s mother and their children, who were also quite reserved. Priya’s daughter got married last year. We were invited to the wedding, but even then, we hardly interacted.”
Priya had previously been active in local Kudumbashree initiatives but had stopped participating recently. Selvaraj, who worked as a mason, maintained a low profile and had a limited social circle within the community.
Authorities revealed that the couple faced financial difficulties following their daughter’s wedding last year. They had moved to Parassala five years ago and struggled to make ends meet.
The police are exploring all possibilities, including the couple’s financial troubles and the cryptic message in their final video. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities aim to uncover the truth behind this tragic event.
