Union Minister Kiren Rijiju sharply criticized Congress for attacking and altering the Constitution. During a speech in the Lok Sabha, he accused the party of changing its core essence. “You have attacked the Constitution, you have changed the preamble. You have changed the very soul of the Constitution. Then how can you blame others?” Rijiju stated.
Rijiju Defends India’s Treatment of Minorities
Furthermore, Rijiju responded to opposition claims about the safety of minorities in India. He pointed out that, when minorities face persecution in other countries, they seek protection in India. “If there is oppression against minorities, the first country they come to seek protection is India,” he explained. Thus, he questioned why the opposition continues to claim minorities are not safe in the country.
Questions Congress on Bharat Ratna for Ambedkar
Additionally, Rijiju raised concerns about Congress not awarding Bharat Ratna to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He highlighted that, after 1956, the award was given to other leaders, including Indira Gandhi, but not to Ambedkar. “Why wasn’t Baba Saheb Ambedkar given Bharat Ratna during your party’s governance?” he asked, urging the Congress to address this issue.
75th Anniversary of the Constitution
On December 13, the Lok Sabha began a two-day debate to mark the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption. The previous day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra delivered fiery speeches. The winter session of Parliament, which began on November 25, will run until December 20.
