Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Rekha Gupta is set to take oath as the new chief minister of Delhi at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday. The 50-year-old leader, who won from Shalimar Bagh, will become the capital’s fourth woman CM.

Rekha Gupta’s Wealth and Assets

As per an affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI) during her nomination, Rekha Gupta declared her total income for the financial year 2023-24 as Rs. 6,92,050. Her moveable assets amount to Rs. 1,25,73,289.50, while her immovable assets are valued at Rs. 2.30 crore. She co-owns one of her two residential properties with her husband. Additionally, she possesses jewellery worth Rs. 18 lakh but does not own a vehicle.

The affidavit also reveals that Gupta has loans totaling Rs. 48.44 lakh.

Criminal Cases Against Rekha Gupta

According to the ECI affidavit, Rekha Gupta does not have any criminal cases against her.

Rekha Gupta’s Political Journey

Gupta has held several key positions in the BJP, including serving as general secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and as a member of the party’s national executive committee. She has led multiple initiatives focused on women’s welfare and marginalized communities.

Her political journey began with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student organization linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). While studying at Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College, she was elected as the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) for the 1996-97 term, actively voicing student concerns.

Gupta later served as a councillor from North Pitampura in 2007, working on infrastructure development, including libraries and parks. She has also earned an LLB degree and founded AAS, an NGO. In 2023, she contested the mayoral election but lost to AAP’s Shelly Oberoi.
