Puducherry Calls for Enhanced Parking and Traffic Management in LS Poll Demands

Before the Lok Sabha elections, stakeholders in the tourism industry of Puducherry are advocating for improved infrastructure and seeking greater focus from policymakers, especially regarding issues like parking and traffic congestion.

Puducherry, renowned for its French colonial legacy, draws tourists with its quaint streets, colonial buildings, and tranquil beaches. The tourism sector provides a blend of cultural immersion, spiritual sanctuaries, and coastal leisure activities. Additionally, hospitality services, eco-tourism ventures, and cultural festivities cater to the varied interests of visitors.

As the electoral process progresses, with voting for all 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and the Puducherry constituency set for the first phase on April 19, the call for significant transformation in Puducherry’s tourism scene appears to be gaining momentum.

Antony, employed in hospitality services, highlighted parking as a major concern in Puducherry. Drawing from his own encounters, he expressed the difficulty in finding suitable parking spaces. He emphasized the need for local candidates to prioritize addressing this issue.

A taxi driver echoed similar sentiments, expressing frustration over the struggle to find parking amidst the influx of tourists frequenting popular attractions.

Operators of rental bike services noted several traffic issues in Puducherry, including urban congestion, inadequate infrastructure, limited parking facilities, and insufficient public transportation options. One operator highlighted that narrow streets in the older parts of the city exacerbate traffic jams, particularly during peak hours.

Manikandan, employed in a guest house, further emphasized that the rising vehicle count aggravates congestion and pollution levels. He outlined efforts to mitigate these concerns, such as enhancing road networks, encouraging alternative transportation methods, and upgrading public transport services to diminish dependence on private vehicles.

Kartik, a tourist, expressed his intention to vote for development, emphasizing the importance of electing individuals committed to progress and advancement.
