BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized Congress on Tuesday, accusing the party of using Parliament to advance its “Parivar ka agenda.” He argued that Congress is prioritizing confrontation over consensus and disruption over dialogue. “After being badly thrashed in Maharashtra and Haryana elections, Congress, out of sheer frustration, has started using Parliament as a platform for implementing its ‘Parivar ka agenda’. It puts confrontation above consensus. It puts disruption above dialogue,” Poonawalla stated. He also highlighted that this approach has led to a significant loss for taxpayers.
Jairam Ramesh Blames Government
Meanwhile, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh blamed the BJP-led government for the ongoing washout of Parliament proceedings. He alleged that the opposition was being denied the chance to speak. Ramesh said, “Who is responsible for this washout? It is the government that is responsible. Opposition wants discussion on issues of Adani, Manipur, Sambhal, Ajmer, unemployment… But our notices are not even mentioned, and our leaders are not allowed to speak.” As a result, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the fifth consecutive day without any substantial business being conducted.
Opposition Pushes for Discussion on Key Issues
Additionally, Ramesh emphasized that various parties have different priorities, but they all wanted to address significant issues. He mentioned Congress’s demand for a two-day discussion on the 75th year of the Constitution. Furthermore, Ramesh pointed out that the opposition wanted to discuss topics such as unemployment and the Adani issue. He also noted that while the TMC is part of the INDIA alliance, they agreed that the Adani issue remains crucial.
Parliament Set to Resume Normal Functioning
Despite the ongoing disruptions, Parliament is expected to resume its normal functioning on Tuesday. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju met with floor leaders and addressed the stalemate. He confirmed that all parties had agreed discussions would begin the next day.
