PM Modi Launches BJP’s 2024 Membership Drive; Says, ‘It’s an ideological movement’

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the BJP’s 2024 membership drive by renewing his own membership. The event, held as part of the ‘Sanghatan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024,’ saw PM Modi receiving his membership renewal certificate from BJP president JP Nadda.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking at the launch, emphasized the BJP’s unique position as both the largest and most democratic political party globally. “No other party conducts its membership drive with such transparency and honesty as the BJP,” Shah remarked.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the party’s credibility, stating, “Modiji ensures that our promises align with our capabilities. This is why the BJP stands out as the most credible political party in the world. We don’t do politics just to form a government, but to empower society.”

The membership drive, which requires existing members to renew their memberships, will culminate in the election of a new party president. BJP chief and Union Health Minister JP Nadda expressed confidence that the drive would surpass the 10-crore mark, attributing this to the public’s enthusiasm and trust in PM Modi and the BJP.

PM Modi, in his address, underscored that the membership drive is more than a mere ritual—it represents the expansion of the BJP family and an ideological movement. He called on party members to support the 33% reservation for women in Legislative Assemblies and Parliament by ensuring the election of women as MLAs and MPs.

“This membership drive is not a numbers game; it’s an emotional and ideological movement,” said PM Modi. He also spoke of the BJP’s efforts since the days of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh to bring a new political culture to India, emphasizing the party’s commitment to democratic values.

Recalling his early days in the party, PM Modi shared memories of painting the lotus symbol on walls with confidence that it would one day bloom in people’s hearts. He stressed that the BJP is the only party in India that adheres to the democratic process while expanding its work to meet public expectations.

PM Modi also turned emotional while recalling the sacrifices of party workers, particularly those who faced jail time for their activism. He urged BJP members to strengthen the party’s presence in border villages.

The membership drive will be conducted in two phases: September 2 to September 25, and October 1 to October 15, each targeting specific milestones to ensure nationwide reach. The event was also addressed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP chief JP Nadda.
