Manipur LS Repolling Sees 73.05 per cent Voter Turnout by 3 PM

A voter turnout of 73.05 per cent was registered during the repolling at 11 polling stations in the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, until 3 pm on Monday.

At present, re-polling is underway in 11 polling stations within the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency.

Following reports of violence at these polling stations in Manipur on April 19, the Election Commission has mandated the repolling.

Repolling is taking place at several affected polling stations, including Moirangkampu Sajeb Upper Primary School and S. Ibobi Primary School (East Wing) in the Khurai assembly constituency, four in Kshetrigao, one in Thongju, three in Uripok, and one in Konthoujam. Incidents of violence, including gunfire and destruction of EVMs, were reported at some of these polling booths in strife-torn Manipur.

Security measures have been heightened at all polling stations to prevent any untoward incidents. During the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Friday, certain miscreants reportedly fired shots and damaged EVMs at these polling stations. Manipur witnessed a voter turnout of 69.18 percent until 7 pm on April 19.

During the incidents of violence on April 19, one civilian sustained injuries from gunfire, and clashes erupted at a polling booth in Moirangkampu Sajeb Awang Leikai of Imphal, Manipur, amid the Lok Sabha elections.

The Lok Sabha elections saw participation from all 32 assembly segments of the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency and 15 assembly segments of the Outer Manipur (ST) parliamentary constituency.

Voting for the remaining 13 segments of Outer Manipur is scheduled for the second phase on April 26. The counting of votes is slated for June 4.
