Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O’Brien has demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) expedite its probe into the rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata, mirroring the timeline given to Kolkata Police.
O’Brien, in a post on X, stated that the CBI should provide daily updates on the investigation and adhere to the August 17 deadline set for Kolkata Police to complete their probe. He emphasized the need for swift justice and the harshest punishment for those involved in the heinous crime.
The TMC leader further expressed public outrage over the incident and extended condolences to the victim’s family.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to lead a protest demanding the CBI arrest all culprits and expedite the trial. Meanwhile, doctors and medical organizations across the country are planning demonstrations in solidarity with the victim.
Kolkata Police has arrested 19 people in connection with the mob violence that erupted at RG Kar Medical College following the doctor’s murder. A large mob had attacked doctors and medical students on the night of August 14.
The tragic incident has sparked widespread condemnation and protests from the medical community.
