The General Administration Department of the Government of Delhi has issued a critical directive aimed at securing government records, files, and electronic equipment. The notice stipulates that the GAD must approve the removal of sensitive documents or computer hardware from the Delhi Secretariat complex.
The directive of the department reads, “To address security concerns and the safety of records, it is requested that no files/documents, Computer Hardware etc. may be taken outside Delhi Secretariat complex without permission from GAD.”
It further states, “It is therefore directed that necessary directions may be issued to the concerned Branch In-charges under the Departments/Offices situated in Delhi Secretariat to ensure safety of records, files, documents, electronic files etc. under their section/branches.”
Ensuring the Safety of Government Materials
The alert comes amid rising concerns about the security of government records and infrastructure. As the Delhi Assembly election 2025 vote counting continues, with indicators pointing to a possible BJP comeback in the city, the instruction wants to keep critical materials secure throughout this political change.
The memorandum states that confidential government documents and materials should not leave the Secretariat for security reasons, considering that the current election is still underway. Thus, the directive prevents the taking out of materials without explicit permission of the GAD.
With this in mind, the Delhi government is taking proactive measures to safeguard against loss, unauthorized access, or misuse of data. Additionally, the GAD has repeatedly emphasized that officials of the department are liable for the integrity and security of the materials under their supervision.
Temporary Closure of Delhi Secretariat
With this in mind, the government has temporarily closed the Delhi Secretariat to emphasize its priority of securing and safely handling records. This ensures that sensitive government files and electronic data remain protected as the vote counting progresses.
