Gourav Vallabh resigns from Congress; says ‘Can’t raise anti-Sanatana slogans’

Congress leader Gourav Vallabh announced his resignation from the primary membership of the party in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Sharing his two-page resignation letter addressed to party President Mallikarjun Kharge on X, Vallabh cited his discomfort with the perceived lack of direction within the Congress party as the reason for his departure.

Expressing his dissatisfaction, Vallabh stated, “I do not feel comfortable with the directionless way in which the Congress party is moving forward today. I can neither raise anti-Sanatana slogans nor abuse the wealth creators of the country.” He emphasized his decision to resign from all positions and primary membership within the party.

Vallabh, who contested the Rajasthan assembly election from the Udaipur constituency in 2023, faced defeat as the BJP candidate secured a significant victory with a margin exceeding 32,000 votes. His political journey began in 2019 with his electoral debut from Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur East, where he secured the third position behind then-sitting chief minister Raghubar Das and Saryu Roy.

Accusing the Congress party of deviating from its foundational principles, Vallabh criticized its current trajectory. He remarked, “These days the party is moving in the wrong direction… the party seems to oppose the entire Hindu society.” He expressed concern that such actions might convey a misleading message that the party supports a specific religion, contradicting the core values of the Congress.

Vallabh further alleged that the Congress’s stance on economic matters has been to disparage and vilify wealth creators. “Today we have turned against those economic liberalisation, privatization and globalization (LPG) policies for which the world has given us full credit for implementing in the country,” he stated, questioning whether it is wrong to earn money through business in India.

Highlighting his initial aspirations upon joining the party, Vallabh lamented the lack of emphasis on economic policy-making in the party’s agenda. He expressed his disappointment, stating, “But, this effort was not made at the party level, which is no less than a suffocation for a person with knowledgeable about economic matters like me.”
