In a significant anti-narcotics operation, police in Anantnag district have attached the property of a repeat drug offender under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The offender, Javaid Ahmad Dar, who has been repeatedly arrested on drug-related charges, had his residential property in Tulkhan, Bijbehara, seized on Wednesday, officials confirmed.
Javaid, last detained on September 6, 2024, was found in possession of a substantial quantity of Codeine Phosphate.
Police stated that conclusive evidence revealed he used illicit earnings to fund property acquisitions. The attached property, valued at over Rs 45 lakh, includes a residential plot in Tulkhan.
An FIR (No. 178/2024) was filed under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act. This case marks another entry in Javaid’s extensive record, which includes previous arrests dating back to February 2020. Investigation found that Javaid’s primary income source was agriculture, deemed insufficient to support his property investments, prompting action under Section 68(1) of the NDPS Act. The order effectively restricts any sale or modification of the seized assets, authorities added.
This operation underscores the ongoing crackdown on narcotics in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting both drug distribution and asset acquisition through illegal means.
