In Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, on May 21, 1991, a suicide bomber from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) killed Rajiv Gandhi at a campaign rally. Veer Bhumi, which is near the Yamuna River, is where he was cremated.
National Anti-Terrorism Day is observed on the anniversary of his passing.
