Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to Indian tribal activist and folk hero Birsa Munda on the occasion of his birth anniversary on Wednesday in his native village Ulihatu in Jharkhand’s Khunti district. The Prime Minister adorned Birsa Munda’s statue and paid tribute to the late tribal hero.

PM Modi was greeted warmly as the first prime minister to visit Ulihatu, with locals dancing to the tunes of traditional instruments such as the dhol and mandar. Following his tributes to the tribal activist, the prime minister headed to Khunti to inspect an exhibition.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to the late tribal leader Bhagwan Birsa Munda at the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Memorial Park and Freedom Fighter Museum in Ranchi earlier today. He was accompanied by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda, and Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan.

In his message on the occasion of Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary, the Prime Minister said on X, “Respectful tribute to Lord Birsa Munda ji on his birth anniversary.” Many best wishes to my family members across the country on this special occasion of Tribal Pride Day.”

Recognizing Birsa Munda’s enormous contributions, the Union Cabinet declared November 15 as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’ on November 10, 2021. Following that, the annual celebration honors the visionary leader’s role in India’s freedom movement. PM Modi will also take part in a program commemorating the third Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, 2023, in Khunti.
