Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently arrived in Vienna from Moscow for a two-day visit to Austria. This visit is significant because Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Austria in 41 years, with the last visit being by Indira Gandhi in 1983.

Modi was warmly welcomed by Indian ambassador to Austria, Shambhu Kumaran, and Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg. This visit aims to strengthen the relationship between India and Austria and discuss various global challenges.

During his stay, Modi attended a dinner hosted by Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer. At the dinner, Modi met with members of the Indian community in Austria. Chancellor Nehammer took a selfie with Narendra Modi and shared it on social media, writing, “Welcome to Vienna, PM @narendramodi! It is a pleasure and honor to welcome you to Austria. Austria and India are friends and partners. I look forward to our political and economic discussions during your visit!”

Modi thanked Nehammer for the warm welcome and expressed his excitement for the upcoming talks. He shared photos from his arrival and the dinner on social media, saying, “Landed in Vienna. This visit to Austria is a special one. Our nations are connected by shared values and a commitment to a better planet. Looking forward to the various programs in Austria including talks with Chancellor @karlnehammer, interactions with the Indian community and more.”

Modi and Nehammer are expected to discuss topics like global security, stability, and prosperity. Modi posted, “Thank you, Chancellor @karlnehammer, for the warm welcome. I look forward to our discussions tomorrow as well. Our nations will continue working together to further global good.”

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg also highlighted the importance of Modi’s visit, stating, “A warm welcome to Indian PM @narendramodi on his historic visit to Austria, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations. The partnership between our nations is based on a joint commitment to global security, stability, and prosperity.”
