Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to use cloth bags instead of plastic bags in his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday. He asked the citizens to decrease the pollution in the upcoming festive season.

He further added that, ahead of Holi, we should decide not to use plastic bags. I urge the citizens to use alternatives to plastic, such as jute, cloth, and bamboo bags.

During his 98th episode of Mann Ki Baat, the prime minister went on to say that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has changed the concept of public participation in the country. PM Modi described Haryana’s youth-led cleanliness campaign.

He stated that the youth of Dulhedi, Haryana, have pledged to make Bhiwani City a model of cleanliness. To encourage people, they have formed an organisation called Yuva Swachhta Evam Janseva Samiti. Members of this committee arrive at 4 am and conduct cleanliness drives in most part of the cities, cleaning tonnes of garbage so far.

Prime Minister Modi took the name of Kamala Moharana, a resident of Odisha’s Kendrapada district who has been successfully running a self-help group. The women of this group make several useful items from milk pouches, like baskets, mobile stands, and so on. This work has now become a source of income for them, and it also helps to clean the area.

If we pledge, then we can contribute a lot to the cleanliness of the country. “At least we should take an oath to use cloth bags instead of plastic bags, said PM Modi.
