During the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit held in Georgetown, Guyana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed a comprehensive seven-pillar framework for enhanced collaboration between India and CARICOM countries.
The framework is built around the acronym C.A.R.I.C.O.M., with each letter symbolizing a key area of cooperation:
India will increase ITEC scholarships by adding 1,000 slots over the next five years. Plans include establishing forensic centres and offering parliamentary training to CARICOM nations.
Focus on sharing expertise to enhance food security and sustainable agricultural practices.
Joint efforts to combat climate change and develop renewable energy solutions.
Boosting technology-driven partnerships and facilitating trade between the regions.
Strengthening cultural exchanges and promoting cricket as a shared passion.
Enhancing cooperation in marine resources, maritime security, and oceanic sustainability.
Collaborating on healthcare initiatives, including affordable medicines and advanced medical technologies.
PM Modi emphasized India’s role as a trustworthy partner for CARICOM nations and the broader Global South. He said:
“India has always tried to face global challenges along with CARICOM. Whether it is COVID, natural disasters, or development issues, India has stood with all of you as a reliable partner.”
The seven-pillar framework underscores India’s vision for inclusive growth and sustainable development in CARICOM countries. With a focus on capacity building, climate action, and technological innovation, India aims to contribute to the region’s long-term prosperity.
The summit marks a significant milestone in India-CARICOM relations, paving the way for deeper cooperation and shared growth.
