On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will fly to Jakarta for the September 7th 20th ASEAN India Summit and the 18th East Asia Summit. On September 7, late in the evening, just before the G20 Summit in New Delhi, the prime minister will arrive back.

“At the invitation of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, Prime Minister will visit Jakarta for the 20th ASEAN India Summit and the 18th East Asia Summit scheduled for the September 7,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary (East) Saurabh Kumar said during a special briefing ahaed of PM Modi’s visit to Jakarta, Indonesia.
The MEA Secretary (East) said: “Prime Minister will depart Delhi on the night of September 6 and return late evening on the September 7. Given that the G20 Summit follows shortly after the ASEAN Summit, it will be a short visit.”

The Indonesian government, according to Kumar, is to be commended for modifying the ASEAN meeting schedule to accommodate the prime minister’s program and his early return. Along with the heads of state or government of the ASEAN member states, PM Modi will attend the ASEAN India Summit. Eight Dialogue Partners—Australia, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russia, and the United States—as well as members of ASEAN are present at the East Asia Summit. PM Modi will attend the 9th ASEAN-India Summit at this time. The summit is the first one since last year, when the relationship between India and ASEAN was upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
