On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the US government for sending back more than 100 precious and historic artifacts to India. “A few days ago, the news that America had returned over 100 priceless and antiquated artifacts to India caused a stir on social media.
The age of these artifacts ranges from 250 to 2500 years. During the 103rd episode of his monthly radio show, “Mann Ki Baat,” on Sunday, PM Modi said that these valuable and rare items came from various parts of the nation. “I want to express my gratitude to the US government for returning these artifacts, which reflect our rich history. Many similar artifacts were returned to India even during my visits there in 2016 and 2021, said PM Modi.
The return of 105 trafficked antiquities to India, according to PM Modi in a previous tweet, will “make every Indian happy.” Thank you, US, for this. These priceless items have significant cultural and religious significance. Their return home demonstrates our dedication to protecting our history and rich heritage, he had written in his post. An earlier repatriation ceremony for 105 trafficked artifacts turned over by the US was held at the Indian consulate in New York.
The ceremony followed PM Modi’s maiden State visit to the US in June.
Speaking at the event, Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, thanked the US, and, in particular, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his Anti-Trafficking Unit and the Homeland Security Investigation team for their stellar cooperation and support.
