Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a moving homage on Vijay Diwas to the valiant warriors of the 1971 war, whose losses secured India’s resounding triumph. He stated that the history of the country and the hearts of its people bear witness to their enduring spirit and loyalty.

“We honour all of the courageous heroes who faithfully served India in 1971 and made a resounding triumph possible today on Vijay Diwas. The country is still incredibly proud of their bravery and commitment. Their unyielding spirit and selfless sacrifices will live on forever in the hearts of the people and in the history of our country.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on ‘X’, praising their bravery and remembering their unwavering spirit.

“December 16 marks the Historic Victory of Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan in the India Pakistan War of 1971,” the Indian Army stated in a post on “X.” Let’s honour the bravery and resiliency exhibited by the Indian Armed Forces on this day.

To honour India’s triumph over Pakistan in the 1971 war, Vijay Diwas is observed on December 16. Pakistan signed the surrender document in Dhaka on December 16, 1971, ending the 13-day India-Pakistan War. The Pakistan Army’s surrender to Indian forces came to an end with the surrender of almost 93,000 men. India proclaimed itself to be a powerful regional force after this resounding victory.

For West Pakistan, the formation of Bangladesh and Pakistan was a catastrophic event with lingering effects. Pakistan was vanquished mentally in addition to Dacca’s physical collapse. The two-nation theory—which held that the Muslims in the subcontinent were a single nation—was disproved. Pakistan continues to look for an explanation for the mutilation. This fight has historical significance for India. As a result, the entire country observes December 16 as “Vijay Diwas” to celebrate India’s victory over Pakistan. Reports state that 9,851 Indian soldiers were injured and 3,900 Indian soldiers are thought to have perished during the Battle of 1971.
