On Tuesday, Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ Veer Savarkar International Airport’s new Integrated Terminal Building was officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He did a video conference to officially open the terminal building.
Increased connectivity on the island will result from the opening of the New Integrated Terminal Building, which was constructed for about Rs 710 crore. The new terminal building will have a total built-up area of around 40,800 sq m and be able to accommodate about 50 lakh passengers a year.
An Apron suitable for two Boeing-767-400 and two Airbus-321 types of aircraft has also been constructed at Port Blair Airport at a cost of Rs 80 crore, making the airport now suitable for parking of ten aircrafts at a time.
Earlier, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia unveiled a statue of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in Port Blair.
According to him, Veer Savarkar International Airport will be enlarged and includes connections to Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Visakhapatnam.
