Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort to mark the 78th Independence Day, expressing his concern over the increasing frequency of natural disasters in recent years and extending his sympathies to those affected.
“This year, as in recent years, natural calamities have raised our concerns,” the Prime Minister stated. “Many have suffered devastating losses, including loved ones, property damage, and significant financial burdens. The nation has also endured losses. Today, I want to convey my deepest sympathies and assure those affected that the nation stands by them in this time of crisis.”
PM Modi also paid tribute to the sacrifices made by those who fought for India’s independence. “On this day, we honor the brave individuals who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. We bow in reverence to their valor and commitment,” he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted the contributions of farmers, soldiers, and youth, recognizing their efforts in advancing the country. “We salute our farmers, soldiers, youth, and the contributions of mothers, sisters, Dalits, and the marginalized. Their dedication to national security and development is commendable,” PM Modi remarked.
He urged the nation to strive for development by 2047, drawing inspiration from the courage and unity demonstrated by 40 crore Indians who fought for independence. “If 40 crore Indians could overcome colonial rule with courage and resolve, then 140 crore Indians can achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047,” he said.
“Now is the time to commit to ‘Viksit Bharat 2047,’ and our determination will drive this vision. We must strive for self-reliance in every field and build a strong nation,” PM Modi added.
The Prime Minister was warmly welcomed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other dignitaries. Dressed in a white kurta with blue accents and a traditional multicolored safa, PM Modi addressed the nation for the 11th consecutive time from the Red Fort, joining the ranks of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi as the third Prime Minister to achieve this milestone.
