Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre is working towards reducing households’ electricity bills to zero. The Prime Minister made these remarks during an address following the inauguration and laying of the foundation stone for projects totaling Rs 11,599 crore in Guwahati.
Over the past decade, the government focused on providing electricity to every household, and now it aims to make electricity bills zero. In the budget, a significant rooftop solar scheme was introduced, with the initial phase assisting one crore families in installing rooftop solar panels. PM Modi emphasized the BJP’s commitment to reaching every beneficiary, stating, “Our goal is to make the life of every citizen comfortable. This focus is clear in our budget. In the budget, the govt has resolved to spend Rs 11 lakh crore on infrastructure.”
Among the projects inaugurated by PM Modi was the Maa Kamakhya Divya Pariyojana (Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor), sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE) scheme. This project aims to provide world-class amenities to pilgrims visiting the Kamakhya temple.
Expressing gratitude for being able to dedicate projects for Assam, PM Modi highlighted their significance in strengthening connectivity with other South Asian countries and boosting employment opportunities in the tourism sector. He mentioned the rising enthusiasm for tourism and pilgrimage in the country, citing the significant number of visitors to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya since its opening.
Before launching the developmental projects, PM Modi conducted a roadshow in Guwahati, where people enthusiastically welcomed him, chanting ‘Modi, Modi.’ The Prime Minister acknowledged the reception, waving back at the crowd.
