PM Modi wrapped up a significant two-day visit to Russia, marking his first since the country’s Ukraine invasion, before embarking on a historic journey to Austria. This visit to Vienna stands as the first by an Indian Prime Minister in over four decades, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Austria.

During his time in Russia, PM Modi engaged in crucial diplomatic endeavors, including an intimate dinner with President Vladimir Putin at his residence outside Moscow. He paid homage at the ‘Tomb of the Unknown Soldier’, honoring Soviet soldiers fallen in World War II, and met with the vibrant Indian community in Moscow, emphasizing the enduring friendship between India and Russia.

Highlighting India’s longstanding ties with Russia, Modi hailed the nation as India’s “all-weather friend” and praised Putin for bolstering bilateral relations over the past two decades. Key announcements included plans to establish new Indian consulates in Kazan and Ekaterinburg, aimed at fostering closer people-to-people ties.

The visit also included a tour of the All Russian Exhibition Centre, VDNKh, where Modi and Putin explored the Rosatom Pavilion, underscoring India-Russia civil nuclear energy cooperation. Discussions at the Kremlin focused on regional stability, with Modi reaffirming India’s commitment to peace and offering support to resolve the Ukraine crisis.

President Putin lauded Modi’s efforts toward peace in Ukraine, acknowledging India’s constructive engagement on the issue. In a momentous gesture, Modi was honored with the ‘Order of St Andrew the Apostle’ in recognition of his contributions to enhancing bilateral ties, conferred during a special ceremony at the Kremlin’s St. Andrew Hall.

Now, as PM Modi sets his sights on Austria, anticipation mounts for pivotal discussions with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and President Alexander Van der Bellen. The visit is poised to strengthen cooperation across infrastructure, renewable energy, technology, startups, and media sectors, reflecting India’s strategic outreach and commitment to fostering global partnerships.

Modi’s journey underscores India’s proactive diplomatic stance amid evolving global dynamics, reaffirming its role as a key player in international relations. His visit to Austria holds promise for deepening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues of collaboration, as both nations look ahead to a future marked by shared values and mutual prosperity.
