During the inauguration of the India Mobile Congress 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need for global standards in artificial intelligence (AI) and data privacy. He urged industry leaders, tech innovators, and startups to establish a unified framework that respects the diverse contexts of different countries.

Modi stated, “We must create global standards for ethical AI and data privacy, similar to the established rules for the aviation sector.” He called on the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) to take action in developing these standards, highlighting that telecommunications security should be a priority in our interconnected world.

He noted India’s commitment to this issue, referencing the Data Protection Act and the National Cyber Security Strategy as evidence of efforts to build a safe digital ecosystem. Modi reminded the audience that during India’s G-20 presidency, the need for a global framework for digital technology was presented, stressing that global institutions must recognize its significance for governance.

“Today’s digital tools and applications transcend national boundaries, making it impossible for any single country to safeguard its citizens from cyber threats alone,” he said. Modi urged all global institutions to collaborate and assume responsibility in addressing these challenges.
