ammu and Kashmir underwent a climatic spectacle as plains were drenched by rains, and higher reaches, including Gulmarg, Pir Ki Gali, Zojila Pass, and Doodhpathri, donned a gentle layer of snow since yesterday evening.
The Meteorological Department (MeT) accurately foresaw this atmospheric display, predicting light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in various areas. The forecast also hinted at a touch of winter enchantment with light snowfall anticipated over the middle and higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir on November 30th, 2023.
Looking ahead, the MeT anticipates a weather shift, with partly to generally cloudy conditions expected in Jammu and Kashmir from December 1st to 6th.
Temperature readings across the region depict a chilly landscape. The summer capital, Srinagar, recorded 5.3°C, Qazigund 5.0°C, Anantnag 4.0°C, Kupwara 4.2°C, Kokernag 3.5°C, and Pahalgam 1.5°C. Notably, the picturesque Gulmarg reported a frosty minus 1.0°C as the minimum temperature in the Kashmir region on Thursday.
In the winter capital, Jammu, the temperature stood at 13.5°C, with Katra at 11.4°C. Batote and Banihal each reported 7.2°C, Bhaderwah 5.5°C, and Udhampur 11.8°C as the minimum temperature in the Jammu region.
Venturing into the Ladakh region, Leh experienced a bone-chilling minus 5.8°C, while Kargil recorded minus 3.0°C as the minimum temperature.
