Disney and Pixar have unveiled the first look at Toy Story 5 during the D23 Expo held on August 9 in Anaheim, California. The announcement reveals that the much-loved characters—Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang—will return for a new adventure set to hit theaters in the summer of 2026.

Pixar teased the upcoming film on Instagram, urging fans to “get excited for their next chapter” with the familiar cast. The latest installment promises to introduce a fresh twist by blending toys with technology. Director Andrew Stanton hinted at this new direction, stating at the D23 event, “This time around, it’s toy meets tech. It’s going to be fun, and we can’t wait for you all to see it in the summer of 2026.”

Toy Story 5 continues the story from 2019’s Toy Story 4, which saw Woody and Buzz Lightyear part ways. The new film will bring these iconic characters back together, along with some new faces, for another exciting journey.

This announcement comes after Disney CEO Bob Iger’s February 2023 reveal that sequels for Frozen and Zootopia are also in the works. Pete Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer and a co-creator of the original 1995 Toy Story, promises that the fifth installment will be full of surprises and new elements.

Tim Allen, the voice of Buzz Lightyear, shared his enthusiasm for the sequel last November, noting that it presents an interesting opportunity to reunite the franchise’s beloved characters. Toy Story 5 is set to release in theaters in the summer of 2026.
