Taking a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab Government over its false claims about providing employment to the educated youth, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Partap Singh Bajwa on Wednesday said that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann lied about eradicating unemployment from the state.
“Recently a video went viral in which a PhD degree holder man from Amritsar, Dr Sandeep Singh is forced to sell vegetables in the streets. He has five MA degrees, but still is forced to sell vegetables, which is highly shameful for the Punjab government”, Bajwa added.

Referring to a news report, Bajwa said that Punjab has the highest number of unemployed youth from the age of 15 years to 29 years. From July to September this year Punjab had 36.5 per cent unemployed youth in the aforementioned age group. Whereas Haryana and Himachal Pradesh had 33.2 per cent and 25.8 per cent respectively.

“It has been the everyday scenario that unemployed or irregularly employed youth hold protest demonstrations seeking permanent jobs. A few months back, an unemployed Assistant Professor Balwinder Kaur ended her life due to the AAP government’s false promises to give her a regular job. She also named the Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains in a suicide note”, Bajwa added.

Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said that even though the AAP government during the elections in 2022, promised to provide government jobs to the youth. However, after assuming the power it seems to have completely forgotten its promise. The Punjab government was prioritising privatisation.
“Out of 276 passengers sent back from France on Tuesday, nearly 70 per cent hails from Punjab. And most of them are in their mid-30s and early 20s. It shows that the youngsters in Punjab are desperate to leave Punjab due to growing unemployment in youth. The government has no roadmap to provide jobs to the educated brigade of Punjab”, Bajwa added.
