For those seeking a break from conventional travel experiences, Maharashtra’s Pench Tiger Reserve, specifically the tribal village of Kolitmara in the West Pench Range, is set to elevate tourism with the introduction of hot air balloon rides and paramotoring. Renowned for its rich wildlife offerings, Kolitmara is embracing adventure sports, making it the first tiger reserve in India to feature such attractions in its buffer zone.
Nestled amidst picturesque forest hills, expansive farmlands, and the flowing River Pench, the reserve already offers jungle safaris and boat rides along the Pench Dam backwaters. While spotting tigers in their natural habitat remains a rare occurrence, the thrill of flying over these magnificent creatures adds a new dimension to the wildlife experience. The ambitious venture has received approval from the Statutory Local Advisory Committee (LAC), led by Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari.
This collaborative initiative involves Maharshi Adventure Sports, Gondia, and the Kolitmara Eco-development Committee. The introduction of adventure sports aims to enhance wildlife tourism by attracting visitors keen on novel experiences. The scenic beauty surrounding the River Pench, including dense forests and vibrant tribal communities, promises an unparalleled viewing experience.
With a vision to diversify tourism offerings, Maharshi Adventure Sports and the Kolitmara Eco-development Committee are optimistic that these adventure activities will draw a broader audience. Tourists can now soak in the breathtaking landscapes through paramotoring at a cost of Rs 2,500 or enjoy a hot air balloon ride for Rs 1,500. Kolitmara has already established itself as an agro-tourism hub, featuring bullock cart rides, nature camps for over 1,000 students, and an engaging cycle trail, among other attractions.
