Paris: Two runways at Paris Charles-de-Gaulle airport were closed on Tuesday as officials continued their efforts to capture a dog that escaped from an aircraft a week ago, according to Air France and airport sources.
The female dog slipped out of its carrier during an unloading operation last Tuesday, and since then, an intense search has been underway. The dog is owned by a Croatian tourist who had arrived in France on an Air France flight from Vienna.
To aid in the search, airport police deployed a drone on Tuesday, which led to the runway closures.
“The animal has been spotted and approached several times, but it has not been possible so far to capture it,” Air France stated.
A young Croatian tourist Míša has launched an appeal on social media to find her dog, who escaped from the baggage hold of her plane just after landing at Charles-de-Gaulle airport.

The plan, according to airport officials, is to get close enough to the dog to tranquilize it with a hypodermic needle.

To minimize disruptions to flight schedules, the operation was scheduled for the off-peak early afternoon hours.
Since the dog escaped, several search efforts have been launched, including nighttime searches, with the owner present. Air France is covering the costs of the owner’s stay at a hotel near Charles-de-Gaulle. Posters have also been put up to alert airport staff.
Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle, with its four runways, competes with Amsterdam’s Schiphol for the title of the busiest airport in the European Union.
