A five-storey building in Hyderabad’s Siddiq Nagar area caused panic when it tilted, leading to an urgent evacuation of residents during the night.
Cracks and Fears of Collapse
Visible cracks on the building, located near Gachibowli in the Madhapur area, increased fears of a potential collapse, making the situation more alarming.
Evacuation and Sleepless Night
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency evacuated residents from both the affected building and surrounding structures. Those displaced had to endure a cold, sleepless night outdoors as temperatures dropped.
Cause of the Tilt: Poor Construction and Nearby Excavation
Reports indicate that the building’s tilt was caused by a weak foundation and poor construction practices, made worse by deep soil digging for a new building nearby.
Resident’s Concerns Over Excavation
Laxman, a resident, recalled raising concerns during the excavation of the adjacent building. “We questioned how they could dig so deep in an area of 50 square yards, but they reassured us that it wouldn’t harm our building,” he said.
