An explosion shook the outer wall of a police station in Islamabad’s I-9 area, ARY News reported. Officials confirmed that no one was injured as the blast’s impact was limited.
A duty officer initially dismissed the sound as a tyre burst but later discovered the explosion occurred within the police station premises. The police have collected metal fragments found near the wall, and an investigation is underway, ARY News reported.
This incident follows a similar one in 2022, when a suicide attack targeted a police station in Islamabad’s I-10 area, killing one person and injuring several others.
In a separate incident on December 25, 2024, a police officer was killed in an attack by terrorists in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to ARY News, the assailants opened fire near the Ahmedzai Sub-division Wazir police station, fatally wounding Head Constable Wazir Zada. The officer’s body was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Earlier, a police officer was killed, and a polio worker injured in an attack by unidentified assailants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak area. The officer was guarding an anti-polio team in Banda Dawood Shah when the attackers struck. Law enforcement dispatched additional personnel to the site as the assailants fled.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also witnessed tragic incidents involving children. On December 2, 2024, three seminary students lost their lives when a mortar shell exploded in the Sintanga Jani Khel area of Bannu. The children were playing with the shell when it detonated.
Similarly, on November 30, 2024, three children were killed, and five others critically injured in Lower Kurram Tehsil after a live mortar shell exploded. The children, all under the age of 11, found the shell on a mountain and began throwing stones at it, triggering the deadly explosion.
