Jaish-e-Mohammed Chief Masood Azhar Suffers Heart Attack

Maulana Masood Azhar, the founder of the notorious terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), has reportedly suffered a heart attack. According to reports, the incident occurred in Afghanistan’s Khost province. Azhar is now being transported to Karachi, Pakistan, for advanced medical treatment, with expert doctors flown in from Islamabad.

Background: Masood Azhar and Jaish-e-Mohammed

Born in 1968, Masood Azhar is a key figure in the terror network supported by Pakistan. He was released by India in December 1999 after the hijackers of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 demanded his freedom. Following his release, he established Jaish-e-Mohammed, a terror outfit responsible for multiple attacks, including:

  • The 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
  • The Pulwama attack in 2019.
  • Numerous other incidents in India and internationally.

JeM has been blacklisted by the United Nations, but allegations persist that Pakistan provides safe haven to the group.

Current Health Crisis

According to News18, Masood Azhar was in Afghanistan’s Khost province when he suffered a heart attack. He is now being shifted to Karachi for treatment, with medical specialists flown in from Islamabad.

Pakistan’s Alleged Role in Supporting JeM

India has consistently accused Pakistan of harboring and supporting terrorist organizations, including JeM. Despite international sanctions and mounting evidence, Pakistan has denied these allegations. However, experts argue that such incidents further highlight Pakistan’s alleged state-sponsored terrorism, with JeM being a key player in its proxy strategies.

Global Impact of JeM

While JeM primarily targets India, its activities extend to other countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. The group has been responsible for planning and executing terror attacks that have claimed thousands of lives.

Conclusion

The health crisis of Masood Azhar, one of the most prominent figures in global terrorism, underscores the ongoing threats posed by organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed. As Azhar battles his medical condition, the world continues to grapple with the broader challenge of tackling terrorism and holding its enablers accountable.
