The recent assassination of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Abu Qatal in Pakistan has sparked speculation that Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, might be next. Experts suggest that those tracking Saeed and his network are closing in.
Experts Predict Hafiz Saeed Could Be Targeted
Foreign affairs analyst Robinder Sachdeva told ANI that Abu Qatal’s killing indicates a tightening noose around Hafiz Saeed.
“Hafiz Saeed’s close aide was killed, which means those tracking them are getting closer. It is said that those who live by the sword die by the sword, and Hafiz Saeed might face a similar fate,” said Sachdeva.
Security Concerns for Hafiz Saeed
Sachdeva speculated that following his nephew’s assassination, Hafiz Saeed may tighten his security. He may also seek additional protection from the Pakistani Army, which is already shielding him.
“No one can say for sure who is behind the attack. However, it’s possible that Pakistani authorities orchestrated this to blame India,” he added.
Was Hafiz Saeed Also Injured?
Retired Indian Army officer Major General Dhruv C Katoch hinted at the possibility that Hafiz Saeed might have been wounded in the attack.
“Reports suggest another person was injured and admitted to a Pakistani military hospital. Pakistan is being secretive about the identity, leading to speculation that it could be Hafiz Saeed.”
Terrorists No Longer Safe in Pakistan
Katoch emphasized that no terrorist is truly safe in Pakistan, even with Army protection.
“Whether it is Hafiz Saeed or not, the key point is that terrorists in Pakistan cannot sleep comfortably at night. The broader message is clear—they will be hunted down.”
Abu Qatal’s Assassination
Abu Qatal, charge-sheeted by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his role in the 2023 Rajouri attacks, was shot dead in Pakistan’s Mangla-Jhelum Road area.
Local reports confirm:
- His armed guard was also killed in the attack.
- The assailant opened fire on his vehicle on Saturday night.
- The attack was reported by The News International, an Islamabad-based outlet.
Qatal was the nephew of Hafiz Saeed, founder of LeT and one of India’s most wanted terrorists.
