China criticized NATO on Thursday for blaming it on them for the Ukraine conflict and warned against NATO bringing European chaos to Asia. China’s Foreign Ministry responded after NATO accused China of supporting Russia’s actions in Ukraine in the NATO Washington Summit held between 9-11 July.
Spokesperson Lin Jian called NATO’s accusations unfair and driven by ill intentions during a regular briefing. He reiterated China’s neutral stance on Ukraine and defended its trade with Russia, which has grown despite Western sanctions.
NATO, in a statement from its Washington summit, accused China of aiding Russia’s war efforts through extensive military and industrial support. Lin argued that China’s trade practices with Russia follow international rules, including those of the World Trade Organization.
Lin criticized NATO’s security policies, saying they undermine the security interests of other nations. China agrees with Russia’s view that NATO’s expansion eastward threatens Russian security.
Expressing concern about NATO’s activities with Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea, Lin urged NATO to avoid interfering in China’s internal affairs or damaging its reputation. He cautioned against NATO causing turmoil in Asia-Pacific as it has in Europe.
Regarding joint military exercises in Belarus involving Chinese troops near Poland, a NATO member, Lin clarified that these were routine exchanges not targeting any specific country.
China’s response shows its firm stance against NATO’s allegations and commitment to its international relationships amid ongoing global tensions.
