Rahul Gandhi ended his US tour in New York, meeting a vocal Indian diaspora. In the meeting held at the Javits Centre, many leaders spoke before Rahul’s address. Most of them appealed to the 3,000 crowd to make Rahul the next Prime Minister in the 2024 Loksabha poll. Indian Overseas Congress president Mohinder Sing declared Rahul Gandhi will be the next PM. Rahul listened to them smilingly but didn’t say anything about his future political plans. The message from New York was not palatable to many Opposition leaders. Some of them may ask Congress leaders whether the party has decided on Rahul Gandhi as the PM candidate.
Absence of CM’s photograph irks minister
During a World Environment Day event in Kolkata, organized by the West Bengal government, an incident took place that drew criticism. The state’s environment minister, Dr. Manas Bhuiyan, expressed anger during his speech about the absence of photographs of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the venue. Officials later explained that they had opted to reduce the use of plastic banners and, as a result, faced challenges in displaying the chief minister’s photograph. However, the minister rejected this explanation and promptly instructed someone to bring the photographs. The incident received backlash from opposition parties, who accused the minister of compromising the dignity of the event.
Barun Gandhi scotches all speculation
During the inauguration of the new Parliament building, BJP MP Barun Gandhi, who appeared upset, was present while many opposition parties chose to boycott the event. After the programme, several MPs, including some who had the opportunity to take selfies with Prime Minister Modi, were seen taking photos inside the Parliament House. However, Barun Gandhi did not take any selfies with other MPs but did take one with his mother, Maneka Gandhi. In a tweet, he mentioned that he had taken a selfie with the most senior parliamentarian, revealing that Maneka Gandhi held this position within the BJP in the Lok Sabha. This revelation came as news to many as her seniority had not been widely known before.
