Over 4,000 athletes from 97 nations are anticipated to participate in the upcoming BRICS Games in Kazan, as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko after a meeting of the organizing committee. The official website of the Russian Government, as cited by TV BRICS, reported this development.
“The BRICS Games, directed by President Vladimir Putin, are a pivotal aspect of our country’s presidency agenda within the association, with 97 nations confirming their involvement,” stated the official.
Russia has also proposed the BRICS Kazan Sports Charter to its partners, outlining the objectives, principles, and mechanisms of sports collaboration within BRICS, along with guidelines for hosting the games by the association’s rotating chair country, as per TV BRICS.
The BRICS sports ministers’ meeting, scheduled for June 22, will convene representatives from China, UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, India, South Africa, and Brazil.
Russian Deputy Sports Minister Alexey Morozov mentioned that around 4,000 participants from abroad are expected at the BRICS Games.
“We anticipate around 5,000 participants, with over 4,000 being foreign participants. The Russian Sports Ministry, on behalf of the organizing committee, has finalized the sports program, considering the applications received. It comprises 27 sports,” Morozov noted.
The BRICS Games are set to take place in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, from June 12 to June 23.
The list of participating nations in the sporting event includes over 50 countries, such as Kazakhstan, Turkey, Mexico, Uruguay, Venezuela, Bahrain, Congo, among others. TV BRICS reported that 380 sets of awards across 29 disciplines will be contested during the competitions.
