More than 200 residents of Supertech Eco Village 2 in Greater Noida West fell ill on Monday after consuming contaminated water, with children being the most severely affected, exhibiting symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea. The contamination is believed to have resulted from improper cleaning of water tanks over three days last week.

The issue surfaced when residents from four towers—C-4, C-5, C-6, and C-7—started reporting health problems. These towers, comprising 20-storey buildings with over 160 flats, were likely affected by the contamination due to inadequate cleaning of the water tanks. Many residents suspect that contaminants were left in the water supply, leading to widespread illness.

The situation has been particularly dire for children. Abhiram Singh, a resident, shared with the publication that his three-year-old son became ill with diarrhea, fever, and vomiting on Monday morning and is currently receiving treatment at Surbhi Hospital in Noida.

In response to the growing number of complaints, the society’s maintenance team inspected the water tanks, collected samples for testing, and pledged to rectify any issues. They also assured that those found responsible for any negligence would face appropriate action.

One resident told, “My son came from a coaching institute and complained of feeling unwell. He vomited twice at the institute. Later, my younger son, aged 8, also started complaining of similar symptoms.” Another resident added, “I returned home from the office around 9 pm and began feeling nauseous by 11 pm. This is all due to the water contamination.”

Several residents reported that since Sunday night, many children had fallen ill, experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, dysentery, and stomach aches. Initially, the illness was thought to be caused by something the children had eaten outside. However, as more cases emerged, it became clear that the source was within the society. The complaints began to surface after a society water tank was cleaned two days prior.

Authorities have now launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences.
