YSRCP MP WRITES TO CENTRE, UGC AGAINST GITAM UNIVERSITY

YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy has written a letter to the Union Minister for Education Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and UGC Chairman Professor Dhirendrapal Singh against the GITAM deemed-to-be University. In the letter, the MP has said that it has violated several UGC regulations.

He alleged in the letter that there was a gross violation of the rules in setting up the university. He said the facts were hidden in the land ownership documents. He pointed out that GITAM also showed government land ownership in the report given to the UGC.

GITAM, which is one of the largest private universities in South India, is facing the charges of grabbing more than 40 acres of government land in Visakhapatnam. Recently, the YSRCP govt demolished its compound walls and some structures in Visakhapatnam’s campus.

The YSRCP MP mentioned in the letter that the part of the civil department structures along with the pharmacy and mechanical departments were constructed on government land.

The letter stated that GITAM did not comply with the requirement to disclose details to the public as deemed to be a university and did not include the documentary evidence related to land to the concerned authorities.

He said there are many irregularities in Bangalore and Hyderabad campuses of the university also. Vijay Sai Reddy alleged that GITAM has not followed the reservation system and no protocol in staff recruitment also. There are large scale discrepancies in awarding PhDs. Previously, Reddy has also written a letter to the National Medical Commission (previously MCI) to derecognize the university’s medical college.
