YouTube Shorts Now Allows 3-Minute Videos, Adds New Features
YouTube has announced major updates for its popular Shorts feature, including an increased video limit and several new tools aimed at improving user experience and content creation.
Starting October 15, YouTube Shorts will allow creators to upload videos up to 3 minutes long, a significant jump from the previous 1-minute cap. This change applies to Shorts with a square or taller aspect ratio, giving creators more flexibility for longer content.
YouTube is also rolling out a new feature that shows previews of comments directly in the Shorts feed. This will allow viewers to interact more easily with content and engage with creators without leaving the video.
One of the most exciting features is the ability to pull clips from across YouTube using the Shorts camera. Creators can strip audio, use videos as backgrounds, or cut segments for their own content. This update builds on the remix tool launched earlier this year, allowing more creative freedom for users.
For users looking to filter content, YouTube is introducing a “show fewer Shorts” option. By clicking the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of a Short, users can customize their feed and see fewer Shorts that don’t interest them.
