A youth fell to his death from the sixth floor of a shopping mall under construction near Shahpur Road in Ludhiana, Punjab. The incident occurred while the labourer was involved in pipe fitting work, and allegations suggest inadequate safety measures on the site. The victim has been identified as Neeraj.
After receiving the information, the police from Division Two reached the scene. Following an initial investigation, the police took possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem. Robin Chug, a resident of the area, recounted that children playing on the rooftop of their house witnessed the labourer working on the mall’s construction fall. The news quickly spread, prompting other workers in the mall to gather.
Efforts were made to provide immediate medical assistance to the bleeding youth by those present, but his condition was critical. An e-rickshaw was used to transport him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he had already succumbed to his injuries en route. Robin Chug highlighted that it’s a common sight in the area to observe labourers or technicians passing through the streets without wearing any safety belts or equipment. The lack of safety measures is cited as a reason behind such accidents.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Amritpal Sharma of Division Two Police Station confirmed that the post-mortem of Neeraj’s body has been conducted, and the findings have been handed over to the family. The incident underscores concerns about safety standards at construction sites and the need for strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent such tragic accidents.
