Woman hit by ambulance will receive compensation of Rs 3.70 lakh

A woman injured in a collision with an ambulance will receive compensation of Rs 3.70 lakh. The Motor Accident Claim Tribunal in Panchkula has ordered the payment of Rs 3,70,524 to the injured woman. The compensation amount is to be paid to the National Insurance Company along with six percent interest. Advocates Prateek Sharma and Vinay Yadav filed a petition in the district court under Section 166 of the Motor Vehicles Act, seeking compensation.

The petitioner stated that on July 15, 2020, at 8 pm, 62-year-old Nirmala Rani had gone to the Durga temple in Naggal village. While standing outside the temple and crossing the road, she was hit by an ambulance from BRS Dental College. The ambulance driver was driving carelessly and at high speed, resulting in serious injuries to the woman. She was admitted to Sector-6 Civil Hospital for treatment and later referred to Chandigarh PGI. In response, the police had registered a case against the ambulance driver, Dharampal, under various sections of the IPC.

The petitioner claimed that the treatment cost amounted to Rs 7 lakh. Consequently, a petition was filed in the district court seeking compensation of Rs 15 lakh.
