WhatsApp is the leading messaging app for millions of users in India, but it’s not just individuals who use it for communication. Businesses, including clothing brands, food companies, and automobile firms, also prefer the Meta-owned app for interacting with customers, addressing queries, and resolving issues. To help these businesses stand out and verify their authenticity, WhatsApp introduced a green checkmark next to the names of verified channels.
However, according to a recent report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp plans to replace the green checkmark with a different one in the Android 2.23.20.18 beta update. A screenshot shared in the report shows that the app is working on changing the green verification badge to a blue checkmark for verified channels and businesses.
The report further suggests that Meta aims to make verification badges consistent across all its platforms, similar to the blue checkmarks used on Facebook and Instagram. WhatsApp is currently testing this update publicly, and some beta users can already see the new blue checkmark.
As per the tipster’s screenshot, WhatsApp would align the icon with Meta’s branding and create a unified experience across Meta platforms by changing the verification badge color to blue.
It’s important to note that the new blue checkmark will still signify authenticity, assuring users they are interacting with verified channels or businesses. This development aims to enhance user trust and reduce the risk of impersonation.
Currently, the new feature is available to a select number of beta users who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store. It is expected to be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks, as reported by the media outlet.
