WhatsApp to Introduce Offline File Transfer Between Android and iPhone

WhatsApp is set to launch a new feature that will transform how users share files between Android and iPhone devices. This innovative tool, currently under development, will allow users to transfer files wirelessly without needing an internet connection, utilizing Bluetooth and nearby device technology instead.

New File Transfer Capability

The upcoming feature will let users share a variety of files, including media and documents, seamlessly between Android and iPhone devices. Unlike traditional methods that rely on internet connectivity, this new option will use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct for a more secure and efficient transfer process.

How It Works

The feature, which is currently in beta for iOS users, includes a ‘Nearby Share’ tool. This tool enables file transfers via Wi-Fi Direct. During the transfer, the recipient will see a QR code on their device that must be scanned to start the process.

The Nearby Share tool is in the testing phase with a select group of users, but Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, plans to make it available to all iPhone users soon. Android beta tests have already been completed, indicating that the feature is on track for a wider release.

File Transfer Limits

The new tool will support file transfers up to 2GB, offering a convenient alternative to traditional chat-based sharing methods. This feature is expected to become a popular choice for users due to its simplicity and effectiveness.

Looking Ahead

WhatsApp’s new offline file transfer feature marks a significant advancement in cross-platform communication. As it progresses beyond testing, users can anticipate a more flexible and streamlined way to share files between different operating systems.
