Western Nepal is shaken by a twin earthquake, although no casualties have been reported.

The National Seismological Centre detected two earthquakes on Thursday night in Western Nepal with no casualties.

According to the Seismological Centre in the Surkhet District in Western Nepal, two earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.8 and 5.9 were detected overnight, with the epicentre in Bajura’s Dahakot. According to Rajesh Sharma, a representative of the Seismological Centre in the Surkhet District of Nepal, the first earthquake, measuring 4.9 magnitude, occurred around 11:58 PM (local time), then at 1:30 PM (local time), another earthquake, measuring 5.9 magnitude, was recorded.

According to the District Police Office Bajura,  locals had to run out of their houses when the earthquake rattled the ground. Adjoining districts of Bajura in Western Nepal also witnessed the shaking of grounds. The District Police Office Bajura stated, “We are determining the impact of the earthquake.”

The Western region of Nepal which had remained stable for a long time has been recording earthquakes in recent months. Earlier, the earthquake in the area had claimed the lives of six people. Bajura, a dangerous and hilly region of Nepal, is located 850 kilometres from the capital Kathmandu.
