West Bengal panchayat polls: Trinamool Congress leads in early trends

The Trinamool Congress has taken an early lead in the results of West Bengal’s panchayat elections. In the early morning the counting has began.

According to trends and results written on the State Election Commission website, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has won 942 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 103 seats, and the Congress has won 26 seats. According to the trends, the TMC holds 2590 panchayat seats, on the hand the BJP holds 664.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has won 47 seats and holds a 558-seat majority. On July 8, there was violence at the polls, and 696 booths were repoll.
Gram Panchayat votes are being counted with Zilla Samitis and Zilla Parishad votes.

According to officials, the counting centers will be adequately secured, and CCTV cameras will be erected. Earlier, security forces used lathi charges to disperse a big crowd assembled outside a polling booth in Howrah. They were attempting to enter the counting center, according to reports.

Agnimitra Paul, BJP MLA from Asansol South, claimed that BJP counting agents’ inputs were not permitted at a few polling stations. She also chastised the ruling Trinamool Congress for inciting violence during the panchayat elections.

“people were murdered in this Panchayat election and our CM & ‘Bhaipo’ who made tall claims that this will be a peaceful election have not made any statement. There was firing & bombing in my constituency, there was bogus voting. So, we have no expectations with this election.

“There are inputs of BJP counting agents not being allowed at a few counting centers. I am sitting here and I have received information that they will attack here by this afternoon,” she said.
