West Bengal: Blast rips through illegal cracker factory, 5 dead

After an explosion shook an illegal firecracker manufacturing facility at Duttapukur in West Bengal’s North 24 Paraganas district, several people were feared dead. Rescue workers reported having found five bodies in the pile of rubble where the cracker manufacturing facility once stood, confirming that there had been casualties in the incident.

“Five bodies have been recovered so far,” Asish Ghosh, a fire station officer, told. According to police sources at Duttapukur, several more are feared dead and injured in the explosion.
The rescue operation was underway till the time of filing this report.
Officials said that the injured were being rushed to a hospital in Barasat.
