Welham Old Boys Society Presents CONFLUENCE 24: Celebrating Art, Education, and Community

The Welham Old Boys Society (WOBS) is set to launch the second edition of CONFLUENCE, a vibrant week-long art exhibition and community engagement initiative taking place from June 15th to 22nd, 2024, at The Stainless Gallery in New Delhi. This eagerly anticipated event kicks off with an exclusive preview on June 15th, followed by public viewing starting June 16th.

Artistic Diversity and Engagement

CONFLUENCE 24 promises a rich tapestry of artistic expression, showcasing established and emerging artists, architects, designers, and photographers from diverse backgrounds. Among the distinguished participants are renowned Indian artists Anupam Sud and Ananda Moy Banerji, recognized for their significant contributions to art education. They will be joined by a lineup including Akshay Raj Singh Rathore, Viveek Sharma, and Partho Sen Gupta, among others, each bringing their unique perspectives and creativity to the exhibition.

Community and Education Initiatives

Central to WOBS’ mission is supporting art education. During CONFLUENCE 24, WOBS will announce the recipient of the Leela Mukherjee Artist Educator Grant Programme 2024, in collaboration with the Mrinalini Mukherjee Foundation. This initiative aims to foster art education amidst challenges faced in various regions, underscoring WOBS’ commitment to nurturing artistic talent and community development.

Cultural Enrichment Beyond Art

In addition to the art exhibition, CONFLUENCE 24 will feature a series of enriching events. Attendees can look forward to engaging conversations, insightful talks, and film screenings, including the documentary ‘Wall Stories’ by acclaimed filmmaker Shashwati Talukdar, exploring mural paintings in the Garhwal Himalayas. For those interested in dance, ‘Merry Feet’ will host a lively line dance workshop, adding a dynamic element to the event.

Promoting Literature and Creativity

Recognizing the synergy between art and literature, WOBS has partnered with Delhi-based publisher Tulika Books to curate a selection of books focused on art, design, photography, music, dance, and non-commercial cinema. This initiative not only promotes reading but also complements the themes explored within the exhibition.

A Platform for Emerging Talent

CONFLUENCE 24 shines a spotlight on emerging talents such as Aryan Arora, Nanki Singh, Divyam Raghunath, and Upam Lahkar, showcasing their innovative approaches across various artistic disciplines. Their contributions alongside established artists promise a dynamic blend of tradition and contemporary artistry.

Celebrating Photography and Sculpture

Photography enthusiasts will delight in works by Nirupama Sekhri, Dr. Abhishek Gaurav, and others, capturing diverse subjects from wildlife to urban landscapes. Sculptor Pratima Narang and collaborative efforts like Amrai Dua with architects Saakshar Makhija and Vrinda Wadhavan will showcase inventive approaches in sculpture and hand-painted furniture design.

Forward Momentum

Building on the success of its inaugural edition, CONFLUENCE 24 embodies WOBS’ dedication to fostering cultural exchange, promoting art education, and nurturing community ties. President Rohit Jaiswal and the WOBS team are committed to delivering another exceptional event that celebrates creativity and encourages dialogue on important social issues.

Conclusion

CONFLUENCE 24 is more than an art exhibition; it is a testament to the power of art in fostering education, enriching communities, and transcending boundaries. With its diverse program and inclusive approach, WOBS invites art enthusiasts, educators, and the general public to come together in celebration of creativity and cultural heritage.
