‘We know what Macaulay told us, not the reality’: Jyotiraditya Scindia recollects history

In an interview with India News, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Aviation Minister, recalled the Scindia family’s history and emphasised their contribution to the national freedom struggle.

He further talked about how Britishers distorted our history and contributed to the misleading documentation of our glorious past.

“Three thousand troops under Jankoji Rao Scindia were martyred fighting Britishers. From 1785 to 1803, the valour of the Scindias stood strong to combat the foreigners,” said Scindia.

He looked back on the contributions of Maharani Baiza Bai scindia along with Nana Fadnavis and emphasised their strategies for the freedom struggle.

“Just a paragraph of a poem does not define the entire history. The sacrifices of Jiwajirao Scindia and his support for the Queen of Jhasi cannot be overlooked. Our history has been distorted by the British, and what we read is a facade written by the British General, Thomas Babington Macaulay. This is the reason why we have not been glorified and all our efforts have been overshadowed in history. “

Referring to the death of his father, Madhavrao Scindia, who died in a plane crash at the age of 56, the Aviation Minister highlighted the uncertainty of life and how his family has been witnessing untimely deaths.

On being questioned why he always talks about death, Scindia said, “Life is unpredictable. We do not know for how long we are going to be here. It’s better to detoxify our minds and reject all the negativity and hatred for others.”
